La Marque House Damaged by Fire

A La Marque house was damaged by fire Tuesday night.

According to officials with the La Marque Fire Department, a fire was reported in the 800 block of Bluebonnet Drive shortly after 10:00 p.m. Tuesday. Firefighters, believing an 80 year-old woman to be inside the home, conducted a search of the home before confirming the owner was not inside. La Marque Fire Captain Alfred Decker said the fire started in the garage area of the house, moved up a wall, into the attic, and spread across the roof.

The fire was exacerbated by the presence of radio-controlled airplane fuel in the garage, Decker said.
The cause of the fire had not been determined Tuesday night. A woman who cleaned the house did say the air conditioning had been “acting up,” according to Decker.

Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately three hours. The Texas City Fire Department and Hitchcock Fire Department assisted at the scene.
