Hundreds of families in central and south Texas were displaced from their homes due to flood water from overflowing rivers, a June 1 article of CBS DFW reported.
A “state of disaster” was declared by Texas Governor Greg Abbott on June 1 after 31 counties in the state were flooded. The Brazos River, Neches River, and Colorado River reportedly overflowed due to the heavy rains. Although many residents in affected areas decided to vacate their homes, there were residents whose homes were flooded that decided to stay as well. Texas climatologist John Nielsen-Gammon reported that heavy rains may continue even as the El Nino period is coming to an end.
