Statistics for this year’s wildfire season show that fewer fires occurred, but those that did occur were very dangerous, taking the lives of many firefighters, according to an article from USA Today published on Saturday, November 23.
According to the National Interagency Fire Center, as the wildfire season ends this year, only a little more than 43,000 fires were reporte,d which is the lowest in three decades. However, some of the fires that did occur had high death rates.
The worst wildfire recorded this year happened in Arizona, killing at least 19 firefighters, followed by a wildfire in Colorado and the large one near Yosemite National Park.
In terms of economic loss, the wildfires in 2013 were also observed to be low, Aon Benfield Meteorologist Steve Bowen said.
