Life insurance agency, MetLife has now settled a multistate lawsuit claiming that the agency failed to pay loved one’s death benefits to their heirs.

Insurance companies in more than a dozen states have stated that MetLife delayed, and even withheld, life insurance policies.  Over the next 17 years, the agency has agreed to pay nearly $438 million and this year alone, nearly $188 will be going to beneficiaries.

Close to $40 million will be going to the California State Controller after it was stated that nearly 30,000 MetLife policies in California have been affected.  Investigators found that MetLife failed to use the file of deceased individuals that is compiled by the Social Security Administration.
