A San Antonio-based international adoption agency, Adoption Services Associates Inc., is currently under investigation for possible consumer fraud violations.

The agency closed on April 9 after filing for bankruptcy liquidation leaving more than 900 couples, whom were supposed to be waiting for a child to join their family, listed as creditors in the filing.

The state is currently investigating whether or not the agency is guilty of violating the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices-Consumer Protection Act.

The agency is being investigated by the attorney general as well as the San Antonio Police Department in order to determine if the agency falsely advertised its adoption services with no intent to follow through on them. The agency stated that “economic conditions” made it impossible for them to keep their doors open.

If you or a loved one has been the victim of consumer fraud, you know how frustrating and unfair it can be. When it happens from an insurance company, it is equally as frustrating because your policy is clearly outlined and they are supposed to follow the guidelines.
