It was once thought that the damage in insured losses from Texas wildfires would be nearly $250,000, but officials now estimate that the damage will be closer to half a million.

The PR manager for Insurance Council of Texas has said that insured damage from the Bastrop fire alone will amount to nearly $250,000. With nearly 1,500 claims, this fire is most costly in history.

As fires are now being contained, insurance adjusters are now able to go in and look at the damage where as before, the land was inaccessible. Policy holders have been called and payments for the insured damage has begun to be made. Over the past seven days, the Texas Fire Service has reported to 81 fires.
