Thunderstorms that developed Sunday evening caused widespread damage to trees and some structures.
According to officials with the Shannon County Sheriff’s Department, the most serious damage was along the Texas-Shannon county line in Summersville. Authorities reported that the roof of the local police station and city hall was blown off by high winds.
No estimate of the amount of damage done to the structures has been released.
Winds estimated at over 60 miles per hour also were blamed for downed power lines and trees in the Willow Springs and West Plains area. Closer to Springfield there were reports of damage in Strafford. Authorities say 60-mile-per-hour winds blew down tree limbs, blew a tree into a house, and damaged an outbuilding.
Earlier Sunday, lightning sparked a fire in Taney County that burned about 20 acres, according to the sheriff’s department.
