A Texas Township home caught fire Sunday morning, sustaining an estimated $20,000 in total damage.

According to Texas Township Fire Chief Mike Corfman, firefighters were called to the scene of a fire in the 5800 block of Stoney Brook Drive, near 10th Street and West Q Avenue shortly before 12:00 p.m. Sunday. Corfman said it appeared the fire started in the home’s garage after an overheated refrigerator ignited combustible material stored next to it.

The township fire marshal is still investigating the blaze.

The fire caused about $10,000 worth of property damage to the garage and destroyed about $10,000 in belongings, including a camper trailer, lawn mower, and storage, according to a news release from the Texas Township Fire and Rescue Department. The living spaces in the house were not damaged, Corfman said.
