A Harris County man has filed suit against the Kingwood accounting firm he used for several years. The man accuses the accounting firm of negligence, breach of contract, and violating the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
The accounting firm advised the man to list his status as a “real estate professional” on his tax returns in 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, and 2009. Deductions the firm took from the man listing himself as a real estate professional led to his tax returns being audited and cost him around $50,000 in tax, interest, and fines.
In the lawsuit, the man is seeking compensation for damages, court costs, and attorneys fees.
